find a kick that is tuned to the root note of the 808s youre playing, and sc it. play it at a G and youll see the same result.Īs for muddiness, all i can think of is youre not choosing the right kick to go with your 808. now do the same except load up just that 808 sample on a diff track. lots of his beats will be hitting at 50-60hz but nothing below that. at the sub 100hz level theres really not much in there except the kick and the 808 (which is normal i guess). Open up a southside track in a daw and load up a spectrum analyzer. When you say low sub what exactly do you mean? the default sample doesn't sound too hot, play it at a G or an F and you'll notice a huge difference. It sounds really middy and really depends what notes youre playing it at. Whenever I use that 808 sample, it has no low sub in it.

I've also read a lot of posts on here about using good quality sound font or sample, I think I've got a good couple samples to work with but if anyone had a kit or something I could use that would be awesome! or i'd be up to making my own if I knew how, if anyone had a link to a how to make an 808.(I've been all over youtube for like a year, can't find anything that's helped me solve this) btw I've tried compressing using the fruity compressor or w.e but it seems like that makes the frequency lower and louder, thus shaking my house more and waking my roomates up, but I can't even tell its that loud. i'm trying to get an 808 similar to "Tat's on my arm" - Wale, or "RWT" -Big Sean. The 808's I have created seem to shake the house but you cant really hear it, it's like a really low frequency and it gets outshined by the other instruments. (I usually use the 30hz preset on panometric e2 and try to cut out the parts that aren't glowing until I have a raw 808 vibration) However, I find that no matter how long I try and eq using panometric eq 2 or w.e I cannot achieve a crisp/clear 808. I've researched the basics of mixing and I understand that you have to have the 808 operating in the low end and you have to cut out the bs on the ends to give it room to shine. I've been using Fl studio's to make beats and I've never been able to achieve the crisp 808 sound that I hear on the mixtapes, cd's and stuff on the radio etc.
